RUNWAY EVENING SHOW – is now FULL!

FESTIVAL CHALLENGE ERRATA: We missed putting this on the registration form in the Festival Registration booklet that came out with the September magazine. If you want to enter the Festival Challenge, please include $5.00 with your payment and write on the form that you are entering the Festival Challenge. Please bring your entry with you to Festival Registration. If you’ve already registered, simply bring BOTH your entry and $5.00 fee to Festival Registration.

We are very much looking forward to welcoming you to Fibrant Auckland, the Creative Fibre National Festival 2016, hosted by the Auckland Area and being held in Pukekohe on the southern fringe of Auckland. Pukekohe is a long established rural service town which has now become part of the Auckland Supercity. The closeness to Auckland has attracted many people to the area, making it wonderfully cosmopolitan with a large number of quality cafes, restaurants and boutiques, while still retaining that ‘small town’ feel. It’s going to be a great Festival, the first that the Auckland Area has held since the 1980s. The Workshop and Lecture programme is truly outstanding and not to be missed, so don’t delay booking! Come along to learn, be amazed, be entertained, shop up large and have a wonderful time.

Accommodation

National Runway Show

There will be two shows held on Friday 29 April at the Harrington Theatre in Pukekohe. This is a delightful community theatre, with a long history and a keen complement of staff and players, some of whom will be modelling the selected creations. The afternoon show will be at 2.00pm, and the evening show at 7.00pm – both with light refreshments provided afterwards. The evening show will conclude with the Awards presentations. From there, the garments will be whisked away for display at the Old Borough Building over both the Saturday and Sunday, allowing for longer viewing time. Floor talk on Sunday 1 May, 10.00-11.00am. The Fashion Exhibition will be closed during this time. We have three Festival Fashion categories: Contemporary Fashion, Nightlife and Wearable Art. All entries are eligible for the appropriate National Awards and the most outstanding garment in each category will be recognised.

Fashion Challenge

Fibrant Auckland is the first National Festival to hold the inaugural Fashion Challenge. For people with great textile skills, but not necessarily garment design skills, this challenge is for you! We provide the pattern, you make the fabric and make up the garment. The only part of the pattern you may change is the sleeves – you can adjust them to suit your design, such as sleeveless, short, long, cap, bell and so on. You can also add embellishments. The choice is yours. Each garment will go through the Selection process, with those selected being modeled in the Runway show. The pattern is a printable PDF and will be emailed to you when your entry form is received.

National Exhibition

The National Exhibition showcases the best that Creative Fibre New Zealand has to offer. The exhibition opens at the Steel Gallery in Pukekohe on Thursday 28 April 2016, immediately following the Opening Ceremony, and will run until 26 May. All entries are eligible for the Creative Fibre National Exhibition Awards. Award winners will be announced during the Opening Ceremony. Floor talks will be held at 10.00-11.00am Friday 29th and 1.00-2.00pm Saturday 30th. The Exhibition will be closed during this time. Cost $10, maximum 20 people per session. See Entry Form and Conditions of Entry for full details. Entries may be collected, by arrangement, on 27 May 2016, when the Exhibition is taken down.

Festival Challenge

The Challenge is to create a piece of artwork with the theme of Fibrant – as in fibre and vibrant. The piece must be no larger than 20x20cm and no deeper than 2cm. We will hang as many pieces as we have space for on display boards, so you may prepare your piece for hanging, such as framing or a hanger. Entry fee is $5.00 to assist with display space costs. If you want your piece returned and are not collecting it after Festival, please include a prepaid CourierPost courier bag.

Woolfest Auckland Art Yarn Award

Fibrant Auckland is the first National Festival to present an award for Art Yarn, sponsored by Woolfest Auckland. This inaugural award is a wonderful opportunity for our growing community of yarn artists to submit their creations for judging and award. The key difference between an ‘art yarn’ and ‘yarn yarn’ is concept, planning, design process, and storytelling — how does the yarn tell the story related to the concept?

Conditions of Entry
The conditions of entry are the same as for any Exhibition piece. The theme for this year is Auckland, our beautiful city and environs. Your yarn will be inspired by the natural or built environment of our area, or its history. Your skein must contain not less than 30% New Zealand fibre and must be accompanied with a statement that documents how you have interpreted the theme into your yarn. You must include the description of your creation: your planning and creative process that resulted in your end product, and tell the story of how you created it, and justify the choices you made in fibre choice, preparation, and construction. You are encouraged to include photographs or sketches of your inspiration and design process.

The Marketplace

The Festival Marketplace will be in the War Memorial Town Hall and adjoining Concert Chamber for a diverse and exciting range of traders related to our crafts, enabling us to get our yarn and fibre fixes. We will have both those traditionally at festivals, alongside some exciting newcomers. There will be a door charge for those not registered for Festival.

Workshops & Lectures

All workshops will be held at Pukekohe Intermediate School, Edinburgh St. For Tutor Profiles, photos and a list of requirements for each workshop, click here.
